Former Georgia wide receiver announces transfer commitment to SEC school
Former Georgia wide receiver Justin Robinson, who entered the NCAA Transfer Portal just days after the Bulldogs’ national championship, announced on Twitter Saturday that he is transferring to Mississippi State.
Robinson, who just finished up his redshirt freshman season at Georgia, has three years of eligibility left. In two years with Georgia, he played in nine of 15 games, serving mostly in a reserve wide receiver capacity. This season, Robinson reeled in just two catches for 18 yards and a touchdown; his 12-yard touchdown came in a blowout win over UAB, and his other reception came in another blowout win over Vanderbilt.
Robinson dealt with foot and shoulder injuries as a true freshman, forcing his redshirt season in 2020. This season, in 2021, the injuries continued to linger, and he missed four games due to injury.
A 6-foot-4, 220-pound wide receiver, Robinson was rated a four-star recruit according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He committed to Georgia as the No. 367 ranked player in the 2020 recruiting class, according to On3’s consensus rankings, while also ranking as the No. 70 wide receiver and No. 38 player in his home state of Georgia. Robinson, a local product at Georgia, was part of the Bulldogs’ No. 1 overall ranked recruiting class which featured five five-star and 14 four-star recruits to pull out a slim advantage over Alabama and Clemson.

Robinson committed to a Mississippi State offense that, unsurprisingly, relied heavily on the passing attack the past two seasons under Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense. Leach, who was hired by Mississippi State ahead of the 2021 season, added a key weapon in Robinson to a dynamic offense that has already seen success in the passing game. Quarterback Will Rogers will return to Mississippi State for his junior season, and in 2021 — his first full season as the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback — Rogers threw for 4,739 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions, while holding a 73.9 completion rate.
Robinson’s commitment to Mississippi State came shortly after the Bulldogs’ leading receiver in 2021, Makai Polk, declared for the 2022 NFL Draft. Pol finished with 105 receptions, 1046 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, each of which was a team-best.
