LOOK: Former Mississippi State receiver Quinton Torbor announces transfer destination
Former Mississippi State receiver Quinton Torbor will transfer to Alabama State, he announced Wednesday via Twitter. After failing to see the field in three seasons with the Bulldogs, Torbor entered the NCAA Transfer Portal in January in hopes of a fresh start.
By transferring to Alabama State, Torbor is moving down into the FCS subdivision of college football. The Hornets finished just 5-6 this past season and could use some help themselves, so the transfer could allow Quinton Torbor to finally see some playing time in 2022. Interestingly enough, ASU went a perfect 5-0 in its home games, but 0-6 in its road and neutral contests.
With Torbor now in tow, they’ll aim to finish above .500 in 2022 and possibly reach the postseason.
A Louisiana native and former three-star recruit, Torbor joined Mississippi State in 2019 as the No. 90 receiver and No. 620 overall player in the class according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. In addition to the Bulldogs, he also held offers from several other SEC schools including Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee.

As a high school senior in 2018, Torbor helped lead Destrehan High School to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 5A state semifinals. He totaled 44 receptions for 685 yards and four touchdowns that season, and also lettered in track and field.
Torbor redshirted his freshman season at Mississippi State, and was also granted an extra year of eligibility in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With that being the case, he arrives at Alabama State with three years left to play. The transfer receiver will get his first chance to make an impact for his new team when the Hornets open the 2022 season on Aug. 27 against the Howard Bison in Atlanta.
