Jeff Lebby sees 'great improvement' in Mississippi State
Despite being at the very bottom of the standings in the SEC, Jeff Lebby knows that Mississippi State is getting better this season.
Lebby spoke about the Bulldogs’ progression at his press conference earlier this week. He and his team feel, although they’re at 1-6 having lost six straight since their opener, that they’re just a few plays away from being where they wanted to.
“Yeah, I think, I feel and our guys inside the building feel every single day that it is an incredibly fine line to where we have a chance to have a happy locker room if there’s two things that are different inside the game,” said Lebby. “It’s that close.”
You might not be able to say that about half of those games as Mississippi State lost to Toledo at home by 24, Florida by 17, and then Texas by 22.
However, the other trio were all one or two possession games against Arizona State by seven and then both of Georgia and Texas A&M by 10. The Bulldogs came back from 27 down to eventually make it a one-score loss to the Sun Devils. They were then competitive for the majority of both matchups with the ‘Dawgs and Aggies. You could even make that case for the loss to the Longhorns before it got further off in the second half.

So, with that, Mississippi State just has to continue to develop. If so, some of those close losses can become wins to give them a record that might better suggest what they’ve been this fall during their debut under Lebby.
“So, us understanding that, our preparation, dialing into that piece of that, out-preparing our opponent starting today and finding a way to make that jump,” said Lebby. “There has been great improvement. We’ve gotten better but we need to get better and we need to win. That’s what we’re fighting to go do.”
