Kanye Clary commits to Mississippi State out of the transfer portal
Kanye Clary will play for Mississippi State next season after committing to the Bulldogs out of the transfer portal.
Clary made the announcement on social media on Friday afternoon.
Clary played for Penn State over the past two years. In that time, he made 55 appearances, including 20 starts this last season as a sophomore. As a Nittany Lion, he averaged 9.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 45.4% from the field and 36.2% from three. That includes a sophomore year where he posted 16.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and a steal while shooting 46.2% overall and 37.7% from three.
However, Clary’s career in University Park ended in a dismissal from the program in mid-February. Mike Rhoades addressed the matter soon after and said that it was his decision to move on from Clary.
“Kanye is no longer with the team. Coach’s decision,” Rhoades said according to Nate Bauer. “We’re going to keep moving forward on the guys we got, the task at hand. It came to a point where we’re at that I made the decision as the head coach to move on. I’ll leave it at that.”
That then led to Clary’s decision to transfer at the opening of the portal. Now, less than two weeks later, he is headed to Starkville to play for the Bulldogs.

Clary was the No. 32 player overall in the portal according to On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players and the No. 6 PG in those rankings.
Clary is now the first transfer addition for Chris Jans and company this offseason. This comes after the program had lost three players to the portal in Andrew Taylor, Trey Fort III, and Jaquan Scott.
Clary played high school basketball at Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia. He was a three-star prospect there as the No. 202 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished as a Top-35 PG in the class and the No. 9 player out of his state.
Mississippi State had a second great year under Jans with a second consecutive selection in the NCAA Tournament. Next year’s team is now already off to a quality start with an addition like Clancy before March is even over.
