LOOK: Mississippi State unveils special uniforms for Saturday's game against Vanderbilt
Mississippi State has unveiled a special set of uniforms for Saturday’s showdown against Vanderbilt. In a partnership with Adidas, the Bulldogs’ threads are part of their Honor Black Excellence initiative.
The threads feature a bevy of colors not usually associated with Mississippi State, like an abundance of purple and orange. According to Adidas, there’s a specific reason for those colors.
“The colors for Honoring Black Excellence were chosen for their impact and historical symbolism — Purple to celebrate the regal past of Black kings and queens, and Orange to represent the sacrifice and strength in spirit that never dies,” revealed Adidas.
Additionally, Adidas provided an in-depth explanation of their Honoring Black Excellence program.
“There is no picture of sport, culture, or adidas without the Black community,” wrote Adidas. “Honoring Black Excellence is an adidas initiative celebrating the achievements of Black individuals, and Black culture as a whole. Throughout the year, we’ll highlight six honorees from different sports, offering a platform to give back and share their stories.”

More on Vanderbilt and Mississippi State
Both Vanderbilt and Mississippi State could use a victory on Saturday. The Commodores currently sit at 14-13 on the season, while the Bulldogs are 16-12. The pair of SEC teams are looking to build momentum towards March.
For Vanderbilt, guard Scotty Pippen Jr. has led the Commodores this season. Averaging 19.7 points and 3.9 assists per game, he’s blossoming into a young star. Now, he’s being tasked with leading Vanderbilt into Starkville to find a victory.
On the other hand, Mississippi State is being led into battle by guard Iverson Molinar. Averaging 18.0 points per game, he can match Pippen’s immense abilities. We’ll see who gets the better of who at 1:00 PM ET on SECN.
