Mike Leach opens up about what it means to win his first Egg Bowl at Mississippi State
Mike Leach earned quite the accomplishment on Thanksgiving this year. In his third season at Mississippi State, the Bulldogs beat Ole Miss to get Leach his first Egg Bowl victory. However, even after his first victory in the series, Leach is already ready to win another.
Leach spoke about the feelings of winning that game during his postgame press conference following the 24-22 win. He says the goal after winning his first Egg Bowl is to do it again in order for him and the program to keep reaching their potential.

“Keep doing it,” said Leach. “Just do the best you can. That’s what you do all the time. There’s no real holdback. If there is any holdback, then you’re kind of wasting your time. You’re not chasing your potential.”
This season’s Egg Bowl was as wild as ever with several twists and turns, specifically with the way it played out in the fourth quarter. It all ended with a failed two-point conversion by the Rebels that allowed the Bulldogs to hoist this season’s trophy.

Leach now wants to earn this feeling every year for himself and his players. He believes it motivates them and, based on their reactions last night, he’s ready to win it again next season.
“They’re really cranked up. Then I think that the better we get? The more we’ll be able to hoist trophies,” Leach said. “It’s a tremendous win for our program, a tremendous win for our players. We’re really excited about it. I’m excited for our fans, our players, our coaches, and everybody involved.”
With three wins in their final four games, Leach’s team will now head into the bowl season at 8-4 overall. That record should earn them a fairly respectable selection but, even so, their win in the Egg Bowl is the victory Leach and his team are now going to hold onto from the 2022 season.
