LOOK: Mississippi State coach Jason Washington gets engaged on field after ReliaQuest Bowl win

Monday’s bowl win for Mississippi State was a day to remember in more ways than one for coach Jason Washington as he got engaged on the field. Immediately after the Bulldogs’ 19-10 win over Illinois, Washington proposed to Mary Yeomans — a learning specialist on the Mississippi State athletics academic staff.
While speaking about the incredible moment in his life afterwards, Washington was quick to thank the late Mike Leach for giving him a job at the school where he met his future wife.

Washington just completed his third season at Mississippi State as an assistant coach with their bowl win on Monday, a position he’s held since 2020. He first came to join Mike Leach’s staff that first season after three seasons prior at Texas from 2017-19.
Although Leach tragically passed away on Dec. 12, his impact on the sport and those around him continues to be felt and showed in many different ways — including Monday’s special engagement for one of his coaching hires.
