Former Mississippi State guard Andrew Taylor enters NCAA Transfer Portal
After previously announcing that he was no longer with the team, former Mississippi State Bulldogs guard Andrew Taylor has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Taylor joined the team the Mississippi State program in the off-season after spending the first four years of his career with the Marshall Herd. After starting and playing in every game for Marshall in his last two seasons there he saw action in only seven games for the Bulldogs. He was then announced as no longer with the program.
This season, Taylor averaged just 3.9 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in just 10.9 minutes of action per contest. Taylor is a 6-foot-3 point guard from the 2018 recruiting class. He played his high school ball at Corbin High in Corbin, KY.
Taylor’s dismissal
Taylor had not been part of the Mississippi State program since January. On January 29, head coach Chris Jans announced Taylor was no longer part of the program, while also announcing KeShawn Murphy was working his way back.
The reasoning behind the absence of both players has been cited as personal matters by the team, with Jans revealing what the future holds for both Taylor and Murphy during a previous press conference.

“I want to update KeShawn Murphy, he’s still unavailable but he’s working his way back to being on the team,” Jans said. “So hopefully before the season concludes he’ll be on the floor again.”
“I also want to update Andrew Taylor, as you know Andrew hasn’t been with us since December. He’s no longer with the team and he won’t be back this season,” added.
Following Taylor’s dismissal, Mississippi State did lose to rival Ole Miss. However, the Bulldogs have won four of their last six games and currently sit at 19-10 overall and 8-8 in the SEC with two regular season games left to play. On3’s James Fletcher currently predicts the Bulldogs will make it into the NCAA Tournament.
