Former Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen has committed to Mississippi State through the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Baylor, two years from winning the Big 12 title, struggled this season, with play reminiscent of the years when the Bears simply battled to be competitive in the conference. Shapen did his best, given the circumstances around him, to try and keep Baylor competitive this season.

Shapen completed 61.7% of his past attempts for 2,188 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions this season. Sadly, his 2023 campaign ended with him being one of the highest-sacked quarterbacks in the conference, getting taken down behind the line of scrimmage 25 times.

Shapen played high school football at Shreveport (LA) Evangel Christian Academy, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 655 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Shapen was the No. 24 available QB in the transfer portal, according to On3. Shapen has at least one more year of eligibility and will be able to play immediately.
