Mississippi State LB Avery Sledge plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
Mississippi State linebacker Avery Sledge is set to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, he announced on social media on Wednesday. He will have multiple years of eligibility remaining.
After redshirting and playing in two games as a true freshman in 2022, Sledge played in 12 games for the Bulldogs in 2023 as a rotational defender and special teamer. He returned a blocked punt for a touchdown along with his pair of total tackles.
“I would first like to thank our lord and savior for giving me this opportunity, and thank ever player, coach and supporting staff that has helped me in this journey. The people and memories I made will forever be remembered and cherished. After a long talk with my family and mentors, I am entering my name into the transfer portal with three years of eligibility,” Sledge said in his announcement.
Sledge played high school football at Forrest County Agricultural (Miss.) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 675 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

A pair of Mississippi State offensive tackles entered the portal this week
Mississippi State offensive tackle Zay Alexander has entered his name into the transfer portal earlier this week.
Alexander spent one season in Starkville but didn’t appear in any games as a true freshman. This would’ve been his redshirt freshman season with the Bulldogs but, instead, he’ll be spending it elsewhere at another program.

Alexander, a native of Tupelo, Mississippi, played high school football at Tupelo. He was a three-star prospect there as the No. 539 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranked as a Top-40 OT in the class and the No. 10 player out of the state as well.
Along with Alexander, offensive tackle Jayden Hobson entered the NCAA transfer portal. He spent one year with the Bulldogs.
Hobson redshirted last season after not appearing in any games during the 2023 campaign. He originally chose Mississippi State over other schools like Southern Miss and West Virginia.
As a member of the Class of 2023, Hobson was a three-star recruit out of Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Hillcrest, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 66 overall prospect in the state, the No. 111 offensive tackle in the class and the No. 1,683 overall prospect in the class.
