Mississippi State extended a pair of offers to safeties in the 2023 class on Thursday, first to St. Louis (Mo.) Cardinal Ritter three-star Marvin Burks Jr. and then to Laurel (Md.) St. John’s defensive back Zahbari Sandy.

Burks is the No. 373 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 25 safety and the No. 9 prospect in Missouri.

Sandy, meanwhile, checks in as the No. 439 prospect nationally, No. 29 safety and No. 4 prospect in Maryland.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Burks has already amassed an impressive offer list, including Ole Miss, Missouri, Michigan, Miami, Florida, and Nebraska. He took campus visits this fall to Ole Miss, Alabama, and Nebraska, and was also on Missouri’s campus twice. He also tripped to Louisville and Arkansas in January, and he expects to set up more visits once the recruiting dead period is over.

Sandy has more than 20 offers to his name, including Penn State, Maryland, Louisville, South Carolina, Tennessee and others. He and Burks are the 20th and 21st safeties in the 2023 cycle to receive an offer from the Bulldogs. Mississippi State has two commits in the 2023 cycle, but none so far in the defensive backfield.
