Mississippi State OT Zay Alexander enters the NCAA Transfer Portal
Mississippi State offensive tackle Zay Alexander has entered his name into the transfer portal.
The news on the Bulldogs’ offensive lineman comes via On3’s Pete Nakos on Tuesday morning.
Alexander spent one season in Starkville but didn’t appear in any games as a true freshman. This would’ve been his redshirt freshman season with the Bulldogs but, instead, he’ll be spending it elsewhere at another program.
Alexander, a native of Tupelo, Mississippi, played high school football at Tupelo. He was a three-star prospect there as the No. 539 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranked as a Top-40 OT in the class and the No. 10 player out of the state as well.
Alexander arrived as part of the No. 24 class for the Bulldogs in the last cycle per On3’s 2023 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings. It was the group that the team retained under Zach Arnett following the passing of Mike Leach. In total, it featured 27 total commitments with Alexander being the 11th-ranked player in the class as one of its 23 three-star talents.

As Mississippi State moves into its next tenure, the program has lost 22 players to the portal during this offseason. A dozen of those have committed to new schools to this point. With Alexander in, that group includes four lineman, including three on the offensive side of the ball with him, OT Percy Lewis (Auburn), and IOL Steven Losoya (Vanderbilt).
With additions, the Bulldogs have brought in 16 transfers to play under Jeff Lebby. They make up the No. 29 class overall in On3’s 2024 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. Within that collection are seven lineman with four on the offensive line. Those transfers are IOLs Jacoby Jackson (Texas Tech), Marlon Martinez (LSU), and Ethan Miner (North Texas) along with OT Makylan Pounders (Memphis).
