Mississippi State outfielder Logan Kohler injures left shoulder in Charlottesville Regional vs. Virginia
Things have gone from bad to worse for the Mississippi State Bulldogs in their Charlottesville Regional Final matchup with the Virginia Cavaliers. The Cavaliers bats have gotten hot in the ninth inning, stretching their lead all the way to 7-2. And then things got worse when outfielder Logan Kohler was injured while diving to field a ball. He made a diving backhand stop with his left hand, but appeared to injure his left shoulder.
Kohler immediately was examined by trainers, grabbing his shoulder, and exited Davenport Field to head to the training room.

Virginia prevailed in the Charlottesville Regional Final, bringing home a 9-2 victory. Mississippi State’s batters could simply find no answer to Cavaliers’ ace Jay Woolfolk. Woolfolk, a former quarterback for the Cavaliers, pitched the best game of his career on a big stage. In eight innings, he threw seven strikeouts and only allowed two earned runs. With the win, Virginia advances to their ninth Super Regional in the last 15 seasons.
Sunday night marked the end of the Bulldogs’ 2024 campaign, but there were still plenty of bright spots along the way. They finished with a 40-23 overall record and a 25-9 record at home.

Mississippi State will likely say goodbye to the services of superstar Dakota Jordan, who finished as a Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist. The slugger became just the eighth player in MSU baseball history to earn such an honor. He blasted three home runs in four games at the Charlottesville Regional, showcasing his electrifying power at the plate.
Jordan blasted a 463-foot bomb at Davenport Field in Charlottesville in their afternoon game vs. St. John’s. According to MLB Pipeline, he’s projected as the No. 29 overall draft prospect in the 2024 MLB Draft. If he does decide to move on, clearly, he’ll be a tough piece to replace as he led the Bulldogs in RBIs, hits, doubles, home runs, walks, and multiple other stat categories. He finished with 20 home runs this year, putting him among some of the best power hitters in the country.
Before joining Mississippi State, he was the Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior, hitting .524 with 16 home runs and 57 RBIs. Jordan shattered several school records including home runs, batting average, RBIs, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.
