Mississippi State pitchers Logan Forsythe, Cole Cheatham enter NCAA transfer portal

Mississippi State pitchers Logan Forsythe and Cole Cheatham entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Forsythe, a sophomore, and Cheatham, a junior, will look to continue their college careers elsewhere. Forsythe pitched 5.1 innings this season while Cheatham put up 7.2 innings.

Mississippi State will be without two promising arms, most likely, going into next season.

Forsythe appeared in seven games, all out of the bullpen as a freshman in 2023. He made his Diamond Dawg debut on Feb. 17 against VM and pitched 6.1 innings in his first collegiate season, according to his bio. He faced 39 batters throughout the season, and recorded 10 strikeouts, 11 hits, and eight balls.

As far as Forsythe before Mississippi State, he had a quality high school career at D’Iberville (Miss.) High.

“Lettered four years under head coach Cragin Gilbert at D’Iberville HS…Posted 48.1 innings his senior season, accumulating a 0.94 ERA and 101 strikeouts, which set program record,” the bio read. “Helped guide D’Iberville HS to back-to-back district championships. Was named to the Clarion Ledger Baseball Dandy Dozen in 2022. Also played football for the Warriors.”

Mississippi State loses pitchers to portal

As far as Cheatham is concerned, he played in 19 games over the course of the last two seasons. He recorded a 7.15 ERA last season and posted a 9.24 ERA in relief in 2022 as a freshman.

“Prepped at Ardmore High School (Ardmore, Ala.),” his bio read. “A 2021 Rawlings-Perfect Game Senior Preseason High Honorable Mention All-American selection. No. 13-ranked prospect in Alabama per Perfect Game…Tabbed high honorable mention Underclass All-America by Perfect Game in 2020. Received All-State honors as a senior by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

“Helped guide Ardmore to the second round of the 2021 AHSAA baseball playoffs. As a senior, faced 221 batters in 52.1 innings and posted an ERA of 1.39 during the 2021 season. Allowed only 22 hits with 37 walks and 124 strikeouts, including a career-high 17-strikeout performance against the East Limestone Indians.”
