The Mississippi State Bulldogs are certainly enjoying their 24-22 road victory over rival Ole Miss in the annual Thanksgiving Day Egg Bowl. Hail State’s team Twitter account may have won the night, though.

Earlier in the week, rumors flew around regarding Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin potentially leaving for Auburn. But Kiffin, every the snarky social media user, denied those rumors by posting a fake press release joking about a Starkville reporter leaving for a job he was never offered. The subtext: Lane Kiffin hadn’t been offered the Auburn job yet and wasn’t going to discuss taking it or any other job until after the season.

Well, after the win over the Rebels, Mississippi State’s team Twitter account created their own rendition. Take a look:

Funny stuff, Bulldogs. For reference, here was the original tweet from Kiffin:

Nothing like some banter between college football coaches and team Twitter accounts. The Bulldogs won this year’s Egg Bowl, but they know Kiffin will remember this little social media spat the next time he beats Mississippi State — whether that’s at Ole Miss, or even Auburn.

Wild ending to Egg Bowl

As for this year’s actual game, it was a doozy of an ending. Mississippi State found Rara Thomas for a 21-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 24-16. Then, Ole Miss took over with just a few minutes to go. And on a very controversial call, Rebel QB Jaxson Dart tossed a lateral pass that was dropped, thereby a fumble, which the Bulldogs recovered, even though the whistle was blown before the ball was picked up. Tough call for the Rebels.

State proceeded to drive right down to the one yard line, where another controversial call prevented a touchdown. No matter, first-and-goal for MSU anyway. Except, on their second play from the goal line, quarterback Will Rogers coughed up the ball. Rebels take over with 98 yards to go plus a two-pointer to tie.

Ole Miss got it done, though. The Rebels stormed down the field for the score…but missed the two-point conversion. Ball game, Bulldogs, as trash rained down onto the field by students. Wild night in Oxford.
