Mississippi State wide receiver Austin Williams pens emotional goodbye message on social media

Mississippi State wide receiver Austin Williams wrapped up his six-year career with the Bulldogs once his team defeated Illinois 19-10 on January 2nd. He carried a 4.0 GPA throughout his time at Mississippi State and was even named the 2022 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year. The standout wideout was also named a two-time semifinalist for the Wuerffel Trophy–the nation’s premier award for community service. Following the finish of his career, Williams decided to pen an emotional goodbye message to everyone that helped him throughout his time in Starkville.

He wrote, “Man, I love this game. The competition, the brotherhood, the highs and lows it brings. I’m blessed and thankful for the last six years in Starkville, and I’m forever grateful for everyone who made it such an incredible experience. All of the family, teammates, coaches, trainers, EQ, admin, fans, friends, and countless others….” Williams wrote. “I’ll cherish these times for the rest of my life. Hail State #85out. Williams broke the school record for the most games played at Mississippi State (61). The previous school record was 52 games and he shattered that record during his sixth and final season in Starkville. He finished his career with 150 catches for 1,536 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns. Williams’ best season with the Bulldogs came in 2021, when he hauled in 52 catches for 617 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The most touchdowns he caught during a season came this year, when he reeled in five.

He played his high school football at Ocean Springs High School (Ocean Springs, Mississippi). Williams earned first team All-State honors for Mississippi Class 6A. During his prolific career there, he hauled in 150 catches for 2,349 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns. Williams earned a three-star ranking from multiple recruiting services across the country.
