On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine: Mississippi State leads for QB Chris Parson

Brentwood (Tenn.) Ravenwood four-star quarterback Chris Parson was committed to Florida State for nearly a year before he backed off his pledge to the Seminoles last month.

In the midst of FSU pursuing four-star passer Brock Glenn, Parson wanted to re-evaluate his options. And while other programs had shown interest or extended him offers, the only two schools — outside of FSU — to receive official visits were SMU and Mississippi State.

After a recent expert pick from On3 national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman, it’s the Bulldogs who are trending in a major way, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). It gives Mississippi State a 93.5 percent chance to secure Parson’s commitment, with no other school polling above 3.5 percent.

The Bulldogs currently rank No. 36 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings, with 14 prospects already committed. Should he commit there, Parson would be MSU’s first blue-chip commitment this cycle.

“Creative off-schedule playmaker with the ball in his hands.. Has a compact build, measuring just a hair over 6-feet, 200 pounds with a 9.5-inch hand. Ran a 4.78 electronically-timed 40-yard dash and jumped a 29.5-inch vertical during the spring camp circuit prior to his senior season. Extends plays with his legs outside of the pocket. Needs to develop more patience within the pocket, but when he is in open space he creates explosive plays. Backup quarterback as a freshman at Duncanville (Texas) High to current Utah QB Ja’Quinden Jackson until the state championship game where he lost his first start to fellow Texas powerhouse North Shore.

Threw for 2,309 yards and rushed for 1,007 while scoring 42 total touchdowns on the year during his junior campaign. Struggles to layer the football and throw with consistent ball placement. Has the physical tools to be a dynamic offensive weapon in the run and passing game.
