Mississippi State receiver Rara Thomas just made one of the biggest catches of the season for the Bulldogs. In the Thanksgiving night edition of the Egg Bowl between the Bulldogs and Ole Miss, Thomas delivered the goods when his team needed them the most in the fourth quarter. He burned the Ole corner down the left sideline on the play and was left wide open for a 22-yard touchdown catch. The clutch touchdown catch put Mississippi State up 24-16 with less than eight minutes remaining in the game.

Check out the connection from Will Rogers to Thomas.

Thomas was also tended to by trainers in the end zone following the play, with what looked like a hamstring injury. There were some words exchanged between the Ole Miss student section and the Thomas, but it’s tough to tell what exactly was said.

The Alabama native was rated as a three-star receiver coming out of Eufaula High School (Eufaula, Alabama). Thomas was rated as the No. 113 receiver in the country in the 2021 cycle and the No. 769 overall prospect in the class, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings.

Coming into Thursday night’s game, Thomas led Mississippi State in receiving yardage for the 2022 season. The touchdown catch was crucial, no doubt about it. Credit to the Mississippi State defense–they held Quinshon Judkins to just 87 rushing yards on the night.

This year’s version of the Egg Bowl was another classic and the Bulldogs prevailed 24-22. The win was Mississippi State’s seventh victory over an AP-ranked opponent under Mike Leach, all while the Bulldogs have been unranked. No other school has more than four wins as an unranked team against ranked opponents in the past three seasons.

It was Leach’s first win in the series over Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.
