Report: UTEP transfer WR Kelly Akharaiyi expected to commit to Mississippi State
Mississippi State may soon add some playmaking out of the transfer portal, as 247’s Matt Zenitz reports that former UTEP wide receiver Kelly Akharaiyi is expected to select MSU as his transfer destination.
Akharaiyi began his collegiate football career at Tyler Junior College, where he emerged in his second season, 2021, to catch over 50 balls for 681 total receiving yards that year, helping him earn an opportunity with UTEP.
In two years with the Miners, Akharaiyi grew exponentially as a wideout. He came in as an immediate contributor as a redshirt sophomore in 2022 having never taken an FBS snap, putting up 275 receiving yards as the third-leading pass catcher on UTEP’s 2022 team. Then, he returned this fall to be the star of the receiver room, posting over 1,000 yards as part of an anemic UTEP offense that struggled to find any consistency outside of Akharaiyi.
