Virginia OT Blake Steen was one of the top offensive tackles available in the portal this offseason after entering during the spring cycle. He’s now the latest one off the board, though, with his reported commitment this afternoon.

Steen has committed to Mississippi State in the NCAA Transfer Portal. That comes per reporting by On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Thursday.

This is coming off ‘a good visit’ by Steen to Starkville this past weekend into this week. The only other visit he took in the portal was to Colorado the week prior, meaning he chose the Bulldogs over the Buffaloes as the final two in his transfer recruitment.

“It felt like home,” Steen has since said about his decision to Maroon & White Daily. “It was about their coaching staff and it feels good to make my decision. It just felt like the right place for me to be, in the SEC. Since I was a kid, I always wanted to play in the SEC. My dad and my older brother played in the SEC and now I get that opportunity.”

Coach Loadholt and Coach Lebby were excited,” Steen added. “They were really happy about my decision to come there. Coach Loadholt likes my size and my length at offensive tackle and that I am a physical player. He believes I am a good fit for the offense and I can’t wait to get started…I do think it would be good opportunity to be in the SEC and I would have a good chance to be successful there.”

Steen was coming into his senior season with the Cavaliers. That’s after making 20 appearances on their offensive line with 17 of those being starts, including all dozen last fall as a starting tackle in Charlottesville.

Steen, a native of Miami, played high school football at St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale. He was in the Top-2,000 prospects nationally as a four-star in the 2022 cycle. He also rated as an offensive tackle just outside of the Top-150 and just inside the Top-250 for the top players in the state of Florida. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He then committed to as one of 16 signees in that class for UVA back in ’22.

Now, Steen is rated a bit higher in the latest update to On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players. He ranked just outside the Top-1,300 overall as the No. 83 offensive tackle in the portal over this offseason.

With that, Steen is the third commitment during the spring window of the portal for the Bulldogs. They added OL Jaekwon Bouldin (Purdue) earlier this week. Since this news, they have also added TE Sam West (Indiana) this afternoon. That brings them to 27 additions over this offseason in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
