And there’s no question Hungate was a massive, massive piece of UVA’s special run. He was one of the best pitchers on their staff and it’s certainly a big loss for the Cavaliers, but a big pickup for the Bulldogs.
Before college, Hungate enjoyed a prolific career at Abingdon High School (Abingdon, Virginia), where he led his team to state runner up finishes in 2018 and 2021. They also won the Regional Championships in 2018, 2019, and 2021. Hungate was a dynamic athlete, also earning first team all-state honors in basketball. An exceptional student, he also was named the school’s valedictorian in 2021.
His brother, Cade Hungate, was the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Virginia before moving on to play for the Florida State Seminoles.
