WATCH: Mike Leach is a big 'Outer Banks' fan
Mike Leach has a lot to celebrate after his Mississippi State team upset Texas A&M on the road at Kyle Field. But he won’t be watching Netflix’s hit show “Outer Banks” to unwind tonight. He’s already seen it.
ESPN’s Cole Cubelic asked the coach, well-known for his Key West vacation home and affinity for Pirates, if he would watch season two of the series after beating the Aggies 26-22.
“I already watched all that,” Leach said. “Anything by the water that’s got cool looking trees and boats, yeah I’ll watch that just like ‘Bloodline.’ You know any of them of that type.”
The Bulldogs arrived in College Station as a seven-point underdog and squeezed out a win behind a standout performance from quarterback Will Rogers. Rogers went 46-for-59 for 408 yards and three touchdowns.
The Mississippi State defense mounted three sacks and seven tackles for loss in an effort that held Texas A&M to just 297 total yards.
All-SEC running back Isaiah Spiller had 16 carries for 100 yards, but his efforts were not enough to jumpstart the Texas A&M offense. It is clear the young offensive line in College Station has yet to gel.
Zach Calzada continues to struggle as a relief quarterback for Haynes King. Calzada was 12-for-20 with 135 yards, a touchdown and an interception on Saturday. He has yet to exceed 185 passing yards this season against a Power Five opponent.

Mississippi State offense is humming
After a disappointing season in Leach’s first year during which the Mississippi State Air Raid offense struggled, the Bulldogs are leading the SEC with 363.5 passing yards per game.
Last season, Leach’s passing game posted 296.3 yards per game, and the quarterback room threw an SEC-high 18 interceptions. Rogers has thrown just two interceptions this season, and the Bulldogs did not turn the ball over on Saturday.
“Getting closer,” Leach said of his team’s passing attack following the game. “We’re getting closer.”
The Bulldogs moved to 3-2 on the season. They are off next weekend before hosting No. 1 Alabama in Starkville on Saturday. The Crimson Tide shut down the nation’s most dangerous passing attack in Ole Miss today, so it will be interesting to see what Leach learns from this weekend’s film as he prepares his quarterback for a nasty Alabama pass rush.
