Montre Miller, a transfer cornerback from West Virginia, has committed to Mississippi State out of the portal.

Miller made the announcement that he’d be coming to Starkville in a post on social media on Friday.

Miller spent the first five years of his career at Kent State before joining West Virginia last offseason for this past year. That will make this upcoming fall as his seventh playing college football.

Miller had entered his name into the transfer portal on the final day of April. Now, just over a week later, he has found his third program with him joining the Bulldogs as of today.

In 39 games, including 24 starts, with the Golden Flashes, Miller posted 116 tackles, 18 deflections, six interceptions, and a pair of forced fumbles with two recoveries. He then appeared in only one game with the Mountaineers this last season after a surgery for an undisclosed injury. During that one effort against Penn State in the season opener, he finished with three tackles.

Miller, a native of Blythewood, South Carolina, played high school football at Westwood. He was a three-star prospect and the No. 1,741 overall recruit in the 2018 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also rated as a Top-275 WR at the time as well as a Top-40 player from his state.

Miller was the No. 555 overall transfer and the No. 68 CB per On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players.

During the offseason, Miller is one of 20-plus transfers to leave West Virginia and was their most final departure of the spring cycle. 11 of those were from the defensive side of the football with four coming from the secondary. The Mountaineers lost one other corner in Andrew Wilson-Lamp (East Carolina) along with a trio of safeties in Keyshawn Cobb (Penn State), Hershey McLaurin (Houston), and Christion Stokes.

As for additions, Miller is the 20th transfer for Mississippi State ahead of the first season under Jeff Lebby. They make up the No. 45 portal class per On3’s 2024 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. Of those 20 new faces, eight of those are on defense. Miller is one of three corners along with a pair out of Memphis with Tre Wright and DeAgo Brumfield.

This comes after the Bulldogs lost 27 players to the portal following the coaching change from after their one year under Zach Arnett to Lebby. 10 of those were defensive players with four corners and two safeties leaving from the secondary.
