Missouri bolstered its offensive line via the NCAA transfer portal this offseason in an attempt for the Tigers’ offense, led by quarterback Brady Cook, to improve on their strong season from one year ago.

Cook, who led Missouri to an 11-2 record in 2023, spoke on behalf of his new blockers, praising their skills and how quick they’ve managed to adapt to the Tigers’ style of offense.

“I saw the chemistry really grow, especially with Cayden Green,” Cook said. “He came in January from Oklahoma and immediately he stepped. He’s buddies with Armand Membou, who is our right tackle. So you know, you learn from them. They’ve got the system down. And then we also just got Marcus Bryant from SMU, another big transfer and he’s fit really well so far in the summer.”

Green, a 6’5 325 IOL, will have 3 years of eligibility remaining after starting seven games for the Sooners in 2023 as a true freshman. Membou started all 13 games of Missouri’s 11-win season in 2023, while Bryant comes in from SMU after helping propel the SMU offensive attack to seventh in the nation in passing offense.

Not only does Cook praise his new offensive linemen, but name-dropping his protectors in an interview idicates the chemsitry is already there. He knows where everyone is, what their strengths are and how he can make the most of their blocking abilities on his end.

This appeared to be the case in 2023, where Cook completed 66.1 percent of his passes for 3,317 yards. He also had 21 passing touchdowns. Cook also rushed for 319 yards and an additional eight touchdowns thanks to the added push up front.

2024 will mark the third straight season where Cook is going to be Missouri’s everyday quarterback. However, it’s the first year where he’ll go into the season comfortably with the job due to offseason quarterback competitions. That’s because of last season when he led the Tigers to its best record since 2014 and a Cotton Bowl victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes, a signature win for the Tigers under head coach Eli Drinkwitz.

Despite their success last season, the Mizzou headman doesn’t want his team to focus on the success that Missouri enjoyed last year. Instead, he’d rather have his group focus on the task ahead and use the proverbial 1-0 mentality. That begins during Week 1 against Murray State on Aug. 29.
