Missouri guard Caleb Grill was discharged from the hospital last night after being stretchered off with an injury against Lindenwood, the program said in a statement. Testing showed he did not suffer a spinal cord injury.

Grill went down while trying to grab a rebound in Wednesday’s game and appeared to get hit by an errant elbow, Mizzou coach Dennis Gates said afterward. He gave a thumbs-up to the crowd on his way out and went to the hospital as a precaution.

“Caleb Grill suffered a neck injury during Missouri’s contest versus Lindenwood Wednesday night,” Missouri said in a statement. “He underwent further tests following the game and was discharged last night after they revealed no spinal cord injury. A timeline for his return has not yet been determined.”

Grill entered Wednesday’s game as Missouri’s leading scorer, averaging 15.5 points. It was an impressive start to the year after missing last season with a wrist injury following his transfer from Iowa State.

After the game, Gates said the Tigers were planning to head to the hospital to see Grill. He also praised the training staff and first responders who made sure he was alright.

“No one likes to see their teammate go down,” Gates said in his postgame press conference, via ESPN’s Myron Medcalf. “In fact, we’ll go over [to the hospital] and check on him and make sure everything is OK. But to my knowledge, he was responsive with us, leaving this arena with his thumbs up. … Credit to our team, our EMS team. They did a great job and I’m very thankful.”

At the time of his injury, Caleb Grill had two points in seven minutes of action Missouri defeated Lindenwood 81-61. Tony Perkins led the Tigers with 18 points while Trent Pierce added 12. Mizzou has now won six straight games since a season-opening loss to Memphis and will return to action Dec. 3 against Cal as the non-conference slate continues.
