Caleb Grill injury update: Mizzou guard's mother sends heartfelt message of thanks
Missouri guard Caleb Grill was stretchered off the floor after suffering a serious neck injury Wednesday evening against Lindenwood. While scary in the moment, the program later announced Grill was eventually discharged from a local hospital after tests revealed no damage to his spinal cord.
It was certainly welcomed news to both the Tigers and Grill’s family. Since the injury, the Grill family has been touched by the many messages of support for the Mizzou guard, and Caleb’s mother, Lena Grill, expressed heartfelt thanks for that outpouring of support Thursday, on Thanksgiving.
“No one likes to see their teammate go down,” Mizzou head coach Dennis Gates said in his postgame press conference, via ESPN’s Myron Medcalf. “In fact, we’ll go over [to the hospital] and check on him and make sure everything is OK. But to my knowledge, he was responsive with us, leaving this arena with his thumbs up. … Credit to our team, our EMS team. They did a great job and I’m very thankful.”
At the time of his injury, Caleb Grill had two points in seven minutes of action Missouri defeated Lindenwood 81-61. Tony Perkins led the Tigers with 18 points while Trent Pierce added 12. Mizzou has now won six straight games since a season-opening loss to Memphis and will return to action Dec. 3 against Cal as the non-conference slate continues. This season, Grill has averaged 15.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

More on Caleb Grill and his basketball career
Before transferring to Missouri, Grill had spent four other seasons at Iowa State and UNLV. He had two separate stints with the Cyclones that one year with the Rebels fit in between. However, his second run in Ames came to an end after Iowa State dismissed him due to “failure to meet the program’s expectations”.
Grill was one of five transfers to come in from out of the portal last offseason for Dennis Gates. He joined their program alongside Tamar Bates (Indiana), Connor Vanover (Oral Roberts), John Tonje (Colorado State), and Jesús Carralero Martin (Campbell).
