College football insider Brett McMurphy made waves when he first revealed that Missouri was not going to play Kansas in the Liberty Bowl. And recently, he revisited the topic, adding more clarity to what he said while doubling down on the take.

“(Liberty Bowl executive director Steve Ehrhart) also told me multiple bowl officials told him Missouri did not want to play Kansas,” said McMurphy. “What I reported originally was that Missouri did not want to play Kansas in a bowl game. I did not say they did not want to play in the Liberty Bowl. I said the Liberty Bowl was an opportunity for the schools to play because of the bowl tie-in. They could have also played in the Texas Bowl. They could have also played in the Sugar Bowl. What I reported was Missouri officials were telling bowl officials and people within the SEC, who then relayed that information to the bowl officials, ‘We do not want to play Kansas in a bowl game.’ And so that’s what I reported.”

While some have tried to poke holes in his story, McMurphy did not deviate from his original assertation. His point was not that Missouri did not like the bowl game chosen, but rather, did not want to play their border rivals. A point which he highlights even further, saying it could be the Super Bowl and Missouri wouldn’t have played.

“…What I reported is accurate. I’m standing by what I reported. I said, Missouri officials told multiple bowl officials they did not want to play Kansas in a bowl game. It didn’t matter if it was the Liberty, the Sun, the Fiesta, the Sugar, the Super Bowl. They didn’t want to play Kansas.”

Hamdan played at Boise State from 2004-2008 and he returns to the Broncos with 14 years of coaching experience under his belt. He spent the last three seasons with the Missouri Tigers, coaching the wide receivers in 2020-2021 and the quarterbacks from 2020-2022.

Missouri earned a bowl bid each season Hamdan was on their coaching staff and the Tigers ranked 32nd nationally in passing offense during the 2020 campaign.

“We’re very excited to bring one of our brothers back to coach with our Boise State family,” Avalos said in Boise State’s official announcement on their website. “Bush is a proven coach at all levels of collegiate and professional football. We were very diligent in our process and there is no question he will be a huge part of the development of our program as we continue to grow forward.”
