Missouri is coming off its best win of the season against a ranked South Carolina team. Following their off week, the Tigers are rested and ready to go as a struggling Kentucky team comes to Columbia for yet another SEC East test.

Before head coach Eli Drinkwitz moved onto Kentucky, he reevaluated what went right against the Gamecocks and in turn, how that same game plan can earn them a major victory over the once top-10 ranked Wildcats. It all goes back to one thing – turnovers.

“I think the number one thing is we didn’t turn the ball over,” Drinkwitz said on the SEC Teleconference Wednesday. “If you look at the previous three road games, I think Kansas State we had four turnovers and punt return for a touchdown against Auburn. We had two turnovers, we ended up surrendering a touchdown and then obviously we fumbled at the goal line, which would have been the difference in winning or losing the game.

“And then at Florida, we had a pick-six for a touchdown and a punt return for like 60 yards and set up another score. You could take 14 Points off the board if you’re not creating self inflicted wounds.”

Kentucky is typically known for its stout defense, but this season the Wildcats rank last in the SEC in solo tackles (243), meaning if Mizzou can get their playmakers into one-on-one matchups down the field – quarterback Brady Cook could have a field day against the UK defense.

Cook is coming off his most impressive performance of the season against South Carolina. While his stats might not reflect that, he was able to pass for 224 yards and rush for 53 more along with a touchdown on the ground. Most importantly, he didn’t turn the ball over.

“This is a play-to-play businesss,” Drinkwitz said. “He handled his business quite well against South Carolina. He threw the vertical ball well and was very comfortable in making sound decisions in both running the football, throwing the football, so we look for that to continue to grow.”

Cook and the Tigers will be tested once against Kentucky. Kickoff is set for noon ET live on the SEC Network.
