Eli Drinkwitz on Missouri fans booing Brady Cook: 'That pissed me off'
The Missouri Tigers upset their former conference foe, the No. 15 ranked Kansas State Wildcats, at home on Saturday. But instead of addressing kicker Harrison Mevis’ 61-yard game-winner, head coach Eli Drinkwitz had some things he needed to get off his chest.
During Missouri’s postgame press conference, the Tigers’ headman took a moment to address the home fans booing starting quarterback Brady Cook.
“I’m gonna say it; it pissed me off when we booed our starting quarterback to start the game. That pissed me off,” said Drinkwitz. “And he went out there and played his butt off for this university and this team. They need to get behind him; we need to get behind the young man. You wanna boo me? Fine. You don’t boo the starting quarterback. It’s bull crap.
“I’ll say it again: it should never happen. Harrison Mevis, he’s tough as nails, does everything the right way. Game on the line, he makes it. Beautiful. And that’s redemption. But that really bothered me, and I’m so glad he played so well.”
The Tigers picked up the victory after Mevis connected on a 61-yard walk-off field goal to give Missouri the 30-27 victory over Kansas State. Starting quarterback Brady Cook played exceptionally in the game, connecting on 23 of his 35 pass attempts for 356 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. The Missouri signal caller also had the team’s lone touchdown on the ground.
After Drinkwitz’s comments, one reporter asked the Tigers head coach if he’s ever seen his starting quarterback put together a performance as he did against Kansas State on Saturday. And that only further infuriated Drinkwitz.

“Yeah, guys, in practice. All the time in practice. That’s why he’s the starting quarterback. Like why are we still asking questions to defend Brady Cook right now? The dude’s a good football player; he’s a really good football player. Quit asking me about it.”
While the Missouri headman may be upset at the moment because of the treatment of his starting quarterback, his Tigers are off to a 3-0 start to the season.
Up next for Missouri will be a road matchup against Memphis, followed by their SEC opener on the road against Vanderbilt.
If the Tigers can continue this dominant play early in the season, they could find themselves 5-0 and possibly ranked in the top 25 by the time they face LSU on October 7.
