Former Florida Gators defensive back Avery Helm is taking his time to find a new college football home after electing to jump into the transfer portal early in December. The junior cornerback has his choice of options, more than 20, and one of them is in the same conference as the Gators. As Helm surveys the landscape, he has made a stop in Missouri and is on an official visit with the Tigers. The former Gator made the announcement with a post from his social media account.

Helm entered the transfer portal on Dec. 6 after spending three seasons in Florida. In his final season with the Gators, Helm tallied eight tackles in six games played. In 2021, Helm contributed 22 tackles, including 17 solo tackles. As a redshirt freshman in 2020, he notched one tackle in the Cotton Bowl versus Oklahoma.

The Missouri City, Tx, native will have three years of eligibility available to play thanks to the 2020 COVID redshirt. As this is his first transfer, Helm will be immediately eligible to play next season.

Currently, Helm is ranked as the 126 best player in On3’s 2023 transfer portal player rankings. He is still viewed as a three-star prospect. At cornerback, Helm comes in in the 16 spot.
