Former Clemson safety Joseph Charleston lands in the SEC

Former Clemson Tigers safety Joseph Charleston is headed to Columbia, Missouri after opting to transfer. Charleston is joining Eli Drinkwitz’s Mizzou Tigers for the back half of his collegiate career.
The junior appeared in 13 games his first season in 2019 and was a part-time starter last season, finishing with 55 tackles, the third-most on the team. He played in 11 games, making six starts.
It took the safety two months to announce his new transfer destination after entering the NCAA transfer portal in October.
The addition is another big win for Drinkwitz and his staff after they finished early signing with the No. 13 class.

Charleston departs Clemson
Joseph Charleston signed with Clemson in 2019 out of Milton High in Milton, Georgia. He was one of the top recruits in Georgia coming out of high school and an overall top-150 prospect.
Charleston played 30 snaps in the opener against Georgia this season and 25 snaps the following week against SC State. But when Nolan Turner returned from his injury for Week 3, Charleston’s playing time significantly dropped.
He was unavailable in Clemson’s last couple of games — against Boston College and Syracuse — as he dealt with a hamstring issue.
Charleston is one of eight Tigers who decided to transfer during or after the 2021 season.
