Iowa TE Gavin Hoffman signs with Missouri

TE Gavin Hoffman has signed with the Missouri Tigers in the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. That comes this morning per reporting by On3’s Pete Nakos.
Hoffman spent his first collegiate season at Iowa. He would redshirt after not seeing any game action last fall, though, for the Hawkeyes.
Now, with this transfer, Hoffman will be moving from the Big Ten to the SEC to play a little closer to home at Mizzou. Hoffman, a native of Overland Park, Kansas, just two hours west of CoMo, played in high school at Blue Valley Northwest. He was the No. 205 overall recruit there as a four-star prospect in the 2024 cycle. He also rated as the No. 12 TE in the class and the No. 2 player out of the state of Kansas. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. With that, Hoffman was the top signee in the last recruiting class for Iowa.
With his entry, Hoffman became one of the top tight ends to enter the portal over the course of this offseason. He rated at No. 253 overall and as the No. 8 tight end per On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players.

Hoffman is now the first addition of this portal cycle in the spring for Missouri. That’s after adding 17 transfers back in the winter cycle to have a Top-10 class currently per On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That’s despite losing 22 players to the portal this offseason, including a few in the spring like QB Drew Pyne (Bowling Green) and LB Mikai Gbayor (North Carolina) along with, whether planning to enter or officially in already, entries by DEs Jahkai Lang and Joe Moore and C Talan Chandler.
Hoffman was one of the top prospects at tight end just one recruiting cycle ago. Now, having not played yet, he’ll be the Tigers’ to develop now with their signing of him out of the spring portal on Friday.
