Missouri started the SEC Tournament with a tough game against Tennessee, but the Tigers seemed to pick up the pace in the later stages of the game while the Volunteers faltered.
Stars D’Moi Hodge and Kobe Brown combined for 50 points in the 79-71 win and left a definite message to everyone else watching.
“That we’re here,” Brown said postgame. “We don’t back down from nobody, we’re here to play everybody and everybody can get it.”
The Tigers made 10 3-pointers, a figure perhaps not as impressive as how some of them came. Missouri just couldn’t seem to miss in key moments late, and some of the 3-point attempts came from well beyond the arc.
Brown credited his teammates for getting him and Hodge, who drained seven of the 10 3-pointers, really quality looks in the SEC Tournament quarterfinal.
“Electric. Electric,” Hodge said. “You know me and D’Moi we work together all the time, work out together. But it’s really our teammates that get us the ball, they get us in the right positions, so it’s all kudos to them.”
Missouri riding the idea it’s being disrespected
One thing that was abundantly clear from Brown in the postgame interview with the ESPN broadcast crew is that Missouri felt slighted.

While Alabama and some of the other teams in the tourney have gotten plenty of ink, Missouri’s arrival as one of the top four seeds in the tournament didn’t get quite as many headlines.
Brown even admitted his teammates fed on that sense of disrespect or lack of attention.
“We just feel like we’re disrespected a lot, so whenever you feel like that it just makes you want to play harder,” Brown said.
Missouri scored 38 of its points in the paint against the Volunteers, using a physical performance to advance to the SEC Tournament semifinals.
Now Missouri will get a chance to take on Alabama, with the two squads set to collide in the SEC Tournament semifinals at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN on Saturday.
