Luther Burden posts cryptic message, fuels transfer speculation
Let the Luther Burden transfer speculation run wild — the old fashioned Instagram scrub is adding some fuel to the fire.
On Monday, the star Missouri wide receiver deleted all the pictures he had posted to the social media website, and posted a cryptic message on his story that simply read, “Patiently waiting.”

While Burden only has ten catches for 78 receiving yards and a touchdown, he figures to be one of the focal points of the Missouri offense in the coming years. Evidently, he’s not happy with his current role, as he’s showing some displeasure on Instagram as rumors swirl.
Coming out of high school, Burden was ranked a five-star prospect by the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services. He was a huge recruiting win for head coach Eli Drinkwitz, with Burden picking Missouri over the likes of Alabama and Georgia.
Burden ranked as the No. 3 overall player in the 2022 class coming out of East Saint Louis High School, electing to stay home.

Time will tell whether Luther Burden decides to end his time with the Tigers, but it would be a huge blow to Missouri if he does decide to enter the transfer portal.
More on Luther Burden, Missouri Tigers
Moreover, Luther Burden is considered one of the most electrifying receivers in the country, and figured to be a dominant force for the Missouri Tigers for the next few seasons. Earlier this summer, he landed on On3’s 2022 Preseason True Freshman All-American Team, where On3’s Charles Power lauded his ability.
“Luther Burden was a landmark recruiting win for Eli Drinkwitz at Missouri. The Five-Star Plus+ pass-catcher had a monster senior year at East St. Louis (Ill.) High, catching 71 passes for 1,174 yards and 20 touchdowns in addition to returning eight of 21 fielded punts for scores. He backed that up with a strong showing as On3’s top receiver at the Under Armour All-America Game in January,” wrote Power. “Burden has a well-rounded skill set and is particularly strong after the catch. He’s a natural with the ball in his hands and has excellent spatial awareness along with the ability to force missed tackles. We expect Missouri to get him the ball in a variety of ways as a freshman.
“Burden finished as the No. 4 overall prospect and No. 1 wide receiver in the 2022 On3 Consensus.”
