Former Mississippi State wide receiver Kevin Coleman has committed to Missouri out of the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.

Missouri will be the fourth team in four years for Coleman, who began his career by committing to Deion Sanders and Jackson State in 2022. He transferred to Louisville after Coach Prime left for Colorado and after a year, left for Mississippi State where he had a breakout season for the Bulldogs.

Coleman was one of the bright spots in Mississippi State’s offense in 2024, catching 74 passes for 932 yards and six touchdowns. All of those numbers were career highs for the junior out of St. Louis, MO.

In his career, he has 133 catches for 1,804 yards and 11 touchdowns to his credit.

Before leaving for Missouri, Coleman sent a final message to his coaches, teammates and fans.

“I want to start by saying I wholeheartedly have love for everyone in the building. I am grateful to Coach Lebby and the staff for helping me continue to grow on and off the field. I loved getting to play with my teammates and appreciate the bonds we made. I also want to thank the fans who welcomed me and supported us throughout the season.

“There comes a time in life when you wonder why things go the way they do, but you learn that’s called life. This was a very hard decision to make for me, but a very important one as well. [The] last chapter of collegiate football, let’s make it a memorable one. I know God got me.”

The portal officially opened on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers.

That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
