The Missouri Tigers’ football team is looking to bounce back from a 6-7 season in 2022. The Tigers finished off their 2022 campaign with a 27-17 loss in the Gasparilla Bowl to Sam Hartman and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Their team has been busy laying the groundwork for the upcoming season in fall camp the past few weeks.

On Thursday evening, Mizzou revealed their team captains for the 2023-2024 season, and one of them is not surprisingly, their returning signal-caller, Brady Cook.

Check out the list of the captains below.

Let’s take a brief look at each of the captains below.

Missouri football captains for the 2023 season

  • Brady Cook–QB–Cook put up very good numbers last year in his first full season as the starting quarterback for Missouri. He completed 64.8 percent of his throws for 2,739 passing yards, while tossing in 14 touchdowns with seven interceptions. As a runner, he also ran for 585 yards and six touchdowns. In 2021, Cook saw a limited amount of work, completing 79.3 percent of his passes for 345 yards, while tossing in two touchdowns and no interceptions.

  • Cody Schrader–RB–Schrader is a former walk-on who played in all 13 games last year. In his first season with the Tigers, he was impressive, leading the team in rushing yards (746), and racking up nine touchdowns on the ground. As a receiver, he hauled in 19 catches for 137 receiving yards. Before Missouri, Schrader spent the 2018-2021 seasons at Truman State, where he enjoyed a prolific career on the Division II level. He led Division II in rushing yards, racking up 2,074 yards and 24 touchdowns on 300 carries. Schrader was also named the 2021 GLVC co-Offensive Player of the Year.

  • Javon Foster–OL–Foster is one of the veterans along the offensive line for the Tigers. He started in all 13 games during the 2022 campaign. He’s also made 26 straight starts at left tackle, earning 37 career appearances for Mizzou. In 2021, he started all 13 games at left tackle, earning honorable mention All-SEC honors from Pro Football Focus. He graded out as the third-best starting tackle in the SEC in run blocking, according to PFF.

  • Chad Bailey–LB–Bailey put up decent numbers the past two seasons for Missouri at linebacker, racking up over 55 tackles in back-to-back years. Last year, he also finished with 8.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks in his 11 games.

  • Ty’Ron Hopper–LB–Hopper was one of the more coveted transfers in all of college football when he joined Missouri before the 2022 campaign. He immediately showed why, racking up 77 total tackles, led the team with 14 tackles for loss, led the team with six quarterback hurries, 2.5 sacks, and one interception. It’s easy to see why he landed on On3’s Preseason All-SEC Team for the 2023 season. Before joining the Tigers, he spent three seasons with the Florida Gators. In 2021, he racked up 65 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one quarterback hit.

  • Darius Robinson–DL–The 6-foot-5, 296-pounder finished last year with 31 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and three quarterback hurries. He appeared in 13 games last year, making 10 starts. In 2021, he battled through injuries, appearing in 10 games with six starts. Robinson tallied 21 tackles that year.

Missouri opens up their 2023 season with the South Dakota Coyotes. That one will take place on August 31st, and kickoff is set for 8:00 PM EST.
