Before Deion Sanders and Colorado stole the season-opening headlines in September, the Buffaloes had already picked up a bit of recruiting momentum during the summer.

That was highlighted by the pledge of Calabasas (Calif.) four-star athlete Aaron Butler, the No. 107 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle, per the  On3 Industry Ranking. The 5-foot-11.5, 165-pounder has remained the Buffs’ highest-ranked commit with the Early Signing Period rapidly approaching.

On Tuesday, Butler announced an offer from Eli Drinkwitz and Missouri, as the Tigers join a laundry list of elite Power Five programs that have already done the same.

Mizzou recently missed out on Saint Louis University five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo, as Texas won out in late fashion for the touted wideout — who committed on Oct. 25. Mizzou’s class ranks just No. 36 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking and is in need of a player of Butler’s caliber to join Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Williams Nwaneri — the No. 2 prospect in the cycle — at the top of the pledge list.

Georgia and Oregon were among those in the hunt for Butler in the lead-up to his pledge to Colorado. Butler’s reasons for choosing the Buffaloes were vast, ranging from playing under Sanders, to being a part of a rebuild in Boulder and more.

“Opportunity to be a part of an epic rebuild…..something legendary. Even in the NIL/Transfer Portal era, what Coach Prime and his Team is doing is truly remarkable,” Butler told On3’s Hayes Fawcett upon his commitment. “Iron sharpens iron – daily competition against two of the best CB’s in the nation Travis Hunter and Cormani McClain. Saturdays should be a breeze.”

Aaron Butler Scouting Journal

“Aaron Butler was among the top cover cornerbacks on hand and shined playing on both the left and right sides of the field for the Fast 7v7 national squad. The 6-foot, 170-pounder is incredibly athletic and is drawing college offers to play not only corner, but also wide receiver. Butler was fluid in coverage throughout the weekend and came away with a handful of breakups and a pick, and the game comes easy to the 2024 standout.”

Butler has an On3 NIL Valuation of $132K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
