One of the top recruits to ever sign for Mizzou has already made an impact. Wide receiver Luther Burden earned Five-Star Plus+ status as a prospect and decided to stay home with the Tigers. He is already on the board, extending the lead against Louisana Tech.

It was a simple play from the Missouri offense, coming out in a full house formation. Burden was on the right-hand side and flashed in front of the quarterback during the play action. It was a simple toss for Brady Cook, while Burden did the rest.

In the space of two seconds, four different Lousiana Tech players missed. Burden eluded two of them and nearly ran through the others. He got into the endzone, scoring his first collegiate touchdown. Missouri saw its lead grow even further, going up 21-7 in the middle of the second quarter.

The On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services, ranked Burden as the No. 3 overall player in the country. He was not only the top prospect in the state of Missouri but also the No. 1 wide receiver. To say he was an important recruiting win for head coach Eli Drinkwitz would be an understatement.

Burden was one of eight 2022 prospects to earn Five-Star Plus+ status. Texas A&M‘s Evan Stewart was the only other receiver to earn the honor.

On3’s Charles Power compared Burden to San Francisco 49ers do-it-all player, Deebo Samuel. He said the two both are a “threat to score the ball anytime [they] touch the ball.” Burden’s first play confirmed Power’s assessment, running through Louisiana Tech.
