Missouri coach Dennis Gates coached his team past Tennessee and into the SEC Tournament semifinals and also had some contract news develop shortly after.
The Tigers announced they have inked Dennis to a new deal that extends his contract through 2028-29 and will bump his pay to $4 million annually, according to a report from Matt Norlander of CBS Sports.
According to another report from Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Dennis Gates’ new contract includes a $100,000 raise annually from the $4 million base. Gates’ buyout figure also jumps to $25.5 million this year.
Missouri has had a terrific season, finishing as the fourth seed in the SEC going into the conference tournament, while the Tigers are widely expected to reach the NCAA Tournament with a chance to do some damage.
Gates and the Tigers are currently 24-8 and finished with an 11-7 record in SEC play this year.
And however the rest of Missouri’s season goes, Dennis Gates’ contract will give him plenty of comfort.
Missouri confidence sky-high after Tennessee win
Missouri started the SEC Tournament with a tough game against Tennessee, but the Tigers seemed to pick up the pace in the later stages of the game while the Volunteers faltered.
Stars D’Moi Hodge and Kobe Brown combined for 50 points in the 79-71 win and left a definite message to everyone else watching.

“That we’re here,” Brown said postgame. “We don’t back down from nobody, we’re here to play everybody and everybody can get it.”
The Tigers made 10 3-pointers, a figure perhaps not as impressive as how some of them came. Missouri just couldn’t seem to miss in key moments late, and some of the 3-point attempts came from well beyond the arc.
Brown credited his teammates for getting him and Hodge, who drained seven of the 10 3-pointers, really quality looks in the SEC Tournament quarterfinal.
“Electric. Electric,” Hodge said. “You know me and D’Moi we work together all the time, work out together. But it’s really our teammates that get us the ball, they get us in the right positions, so it’s all kudos to them.”
