Missouri K Harrison Mevis drills 61-yard field goal to stun Kansas State
Missouri upset Kansas State in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon as senior kicker Harrison Mevis drilled a 61-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Tigers to a 30-27 victory in the rivalry game.
The two teams were tied at 27 when Missouri took over at its own 18 with 1:25 remaining.
The Tigers drove the ball down to the Kansas State 39, before a delay of game penalty pushed the ball back to the Wildcats 44. From there, Mevis attempted a field goal as time expired and nailed it with room to spare.
The Harrison Mevis game-winner capped what was a wild back-and-forth battle between the two teams. With the win, Missouri improves to 3-0 on the year.
“I’m so proud of my guys. Brady Cook gets hurt, comes back and plays his butt off. Puts us in this situation,” Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz told the SEC Network after the win. “Harrison Mevis makes a 61-yarder. Our defense played tough. Whew. This one is a big one.”
As Drinkwitz mentioned, Brady Cook left the game momentarily in the second quarter but returned and played well through a knee sprain.
He finished the game 23 of 35 passing for 356 yards and two touchdowns.
“He’s a tough kid. We’re fortunate to have him as our quarterback,” Drinkwitz said. “I appreciate our fans. Thank you, lord.”
Another star from Saturday’s Missouri win was receiver Luthern Burden, who caught seven passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns.

Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz details why he named Brady Cook as QB1
Earlier this season, Eli Drinkwitz explained what went into the decision to name Brady Cook as the starting quarterback over Sam Horn and what the plan is for Horn moving forward.
“We’re definitely committed to letting Sam continue to get reps, improve, and grow. I think he has earned that opportunity,” Drinkwitz said. “But I also think Brady Cook has earned the right to be quarterback one and take the lion’s share of the reps. That’s how we’ll be operating moving forward.”
Through three games, Sam Horn is 3 of 5 passing for 54 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Meanwhile Brady Cook is 54 of 75 for 732 yards and five touchdowns.
Up next, Missouri will host Memphis on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers will play their SEC opener at Vanderbilt on Sept. 30.
