Mizzou Basketball: Jordan Butler commits to Tigers, Dennis Gates
Greenville (S.C.) Christ Church Episcopal School four-star recruit Jordan Butler tells On3 he’s committed to Missouri.
Butler, a 6-foot-11 class of 2023 center, ultimately chose the Tigers over the Auburn and South Carolina. He also received offers from Alabama, Clemson, Wake Forest, and Florida State, where his older brother, John played during the 2021-22 season.
The versatile big man is Missouri’s third addition to the class. He joins three-star PF Trent Pierce (No. 118) and three-star PG Anthony Robinson (No. 161).
Butler is the No. 96 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 8 center and the No. 2 player in the state of South Carolina. On3’s evaluators are much higher on him, ranking him 42nd nationally in the class.

Butler on his commitment to Missouri
“I ultimately chose Missouri because of the culture and play style,” Butler said to On3. “They believe in me and I’m comfortable around coach C.Y. (Young) and coach (Dennis) Gates. Mizzou has a plan for me. They develop guys and produce NBA players left and right and have experience with very skilled and versatile guys. I just believe it’s the best school for me to follow my dreams and get to the league.”
What type of player is Missouri getting in Jordan Butler?
“The program is getting a very skilled and versatile player,” he says. “A very big forward who wants to get better and someone who knocks down deep shots. A very unselfish player who can dribble, shoot, pass and play defense.”
Butler has a message for Mizzou fans.
“To the Mizzou fans, I’m very excited to play at Missouri and win games and help contribute with the program.”
Scouting Summary
Jordan Butler has a very projectable 6-foot-11 frame. He has good length and moves very fluidly. The skill-set is what sticks out immediately. He can knock down jump shots from three and get to his spots off one and two dribbles. The strength will need to continue to come, but he is young for his grade, which should continue to add naturally. Butler has good footwork in the mid-post, and he has a go-to on the block over his left shoulder. There is continued progression here with current production and a lot of upside to go. – On3’s Jamie Shaw, National Recruiting Analyst
