No. 15 Missouri shocks No. 4 Alabama, sets program record for points in an SEC game during upset win

No. 4 Alabama (21-5, 10-2 SEC) never led as No. 15 Missouri (20-6, 9-4 SEC) cruised to a 110-98 victory over the Crimson Tide in Columbia on Wednesday night.
The Tigers scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back. Missouri went on to score 59 points in the first half and led by 13 at the break. Alabama cut the lead to as little as six points twice — including in the final minute — but the Tigers’ initial lead proved to be insurmountable in the end.
Missouri broke 100 points with 1:59 remaining in regulation after Mark Mitchell sunk a pair of free throws late in the second half. 99 points previously marked the program record for the most points scored in an SEC game for the Tigers.
Mitchell was the team’s leading scorer, logging 31 points on an efficient 11 of 15 shooting. He was joined by senior Caleb Grill, who erupted for 25 points to lead the bench effort on the night to go with 10 rebounds. Anthony Robinson II contributed 14 points during the contest as well.
“We can do anything we want to. Not a lot of people believed in us at the beginning of the season,” Mitchell told the SEC Now crew moments after the final buzzer. “Obviously, we feel like we’re one of the best teams in the country. They can just see the proof is in the pudding from what we’ve been doing and I think we’ve just got to realize that we are.”

They had to stave off the Crimson Tide’s high-scoring effort down the stretch. The highest-scoring team in the country coming into Wednesday’s road trip, Alabama still scored 98 points during the matchup — a mark Missouri hasn’t broken all too often this season.
Alabama’s Mark Sears had a monster night, scoring 35 points and dishing out five assists on the night. The scoring total was a season-high for the veteran guard. However, it wasn’t enough as the Crimson Tide lost back-to-back games for the first time this season following Saturday’s loss to Auburn.
Alabama will look to get back on track when they host an injured No. 17 Kentucky team on Saturday. For Missouri, they hope to take their momentum and use it this weekend as they travel to Bud Walton Arena on Saturday night when they travel to Fayetteville to take on John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks.
