According to Matt Zenitz of On3, Missouri will bring Fresno State‘s Kirby Moore to be the program’s next offensive coordinator. It’s a hire from out west for head coach Eli Drinkwitz, securing one of the top young guys in college football via the Mountain West.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel was first to report the move. A step in the right direction for Mizzou.

This will be the first time Moore makes his way off the West Coast and for good reason. He will be taking over for a Missouri program that needs help offensively, especially in Year Four of Drinkwitz. Moore had spent the past six seasons with Fresno State.

Moore had been with the Bulldogs for the past two seasons, surviving the coaching transition. When Kalen DeBoer left for Washington, Jeff Tedford left Moore on staff with the same offensive coordinator plus quarterbacks coach role.

Fresno State averaged over 30 points per game in both of Moore’s two seasons, something Missouri hasn’t done since 2018. Team success was had as well, winning a Mountain West Championship in December.

Additionally, Kirby Moore is the younger brother of current Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Both played their college football at Boise State and are now making their names known in the coaching world.

Moore has not even been coaching for 10 years, starting as a wide receivers coach at the College of Idaho. His first FBS job came during the 2015 season, serving as a graduate assistant on Chris Petersen‘s staff at Washington.

He will now get his chance with a Power Five program, making his way into the SEC. A crucial year is on the way for Missouri, needing to make a splash in the SEC East quickly. Drinkwitz is hoping the hire of Moore will help things progress nicely.
