Paul Finebaum: Missouri is 'cooked' after loss to Alabama
Missouri is “cooked” after its shutout loss to Alabama over the weekend, according to Paul Finebaum.
Now at 6-2, Missouri is by no means out of the College Football Playoff race, but it’s going to take quite the effort to get back in the thick of things. Those two losses are in the SEC as well, so Missouri is well behind any effort to win the conference.
But after Saturday’s performance, Finebaum doesn’t have much confidence.
“I think Missouri has cooked,” Finebaum said on McElroy and Cubelic. “I mean, there’s no way back for them, and I’m looking at it more from a big picture. What does it mean (from) where you started the season? They can still win some games, but I am underwhelmed by them, and quite frankly, have been underwhelmed by them the whole season.”
Brady Cook was injured, giving way for Drew Pyne to sub into the game against Alabama. The Missouri backup QB and former Notre Dame signal caller promptly threw three interceptions and the Tigers never got anything going.
On the flip side, Alabama’s rushing attack ran rampant in the 34-0 win.
“Proud of our defense (for) the way they came out and fought,” Drinkwitz said postgame. “They gave us an opportunity to stay in the game. Especially, in the first half. Offensively, just with Brady’s injury, (we) just couldn’t get in rhythm. Then, the turnovers really put us behind the eight ball and just put the defense in too many bad spots today.”

Missouri seemed to be down in the dumps too. Pyne put the onus on him regarding the turnovers during Saturday’s game.
“I’m blessed with such great coaches here. … So, I’ll be at the facility all day and doing everything I can,” Pyne said. “And the only reason I’m doing that is because I absolutely love these guys in this locker room. So, like I said, I’ve got two options (make excuses or be accountable for my actions and get better). I’m certainly not curling up in a ball. So, I’m going to do whatever I possibly can moving forward in the future.”
The rest of the way, since Missouri is still ranked No. 25, the Tigers should be favored the rest of the way against Oklahoma, South Carolina, Mississippi State and Arkansas.
