Report: Former Missouri player Terry Petry shot and killed by old high school teammate
A former Missouri defensive back was shot and killed by a former high school teammate, according to a report from KTRK-TV in Missouri City, Texas. Missouri City police reported Terry Petry, 24, was transported to a nearby hospital where he died after being shot by former high school teammate Alex Tristen Francis, 23.
Francis reportedly had his bond set at $350,000 after being charged with Petry’s murder. According to the KTRK-TV report, Petry had spent the night at Francis’ house on the night of the shooting.
Terry enrolled at Missouri in 2017 and played sparingly for the Tigers before eventually moving to Blinn College and then Texas Southern University.
The former Missouri defensive back logged five tackles during his redshirt freshman year with the Tigers in 2018. In one year at Blinn College in 2019, Petry recorded 14 tackles, playing in nine games.
He signed with Texas Southern in the 2020 recruiting class.
According to the report from KTRK-TV, injuries cut Petry’s playing career short.
Terry Petry was a former three-star prospect in the 2017 recruiting class, according to the On3 Consensus recruiting rankings.

Missouri freshman Luther Burden III earning recognition
After battling some injuries following a promising start to his freshman campaign, Missouri receiver Luther Burden III returned to action Saturday against Vanderbilt and immediately began making an impact again.
In fact, Burden was tabbed one of On3’s True Freshmen Standouts from Week 8 of the college football season.
Missouri was able to knock off SEC East opponent Vanderbilt 17-14 in a game that went down to the wire. It might not have been able to do so without Burden’s contributions, which were a welcome readdition to the offense.
Burden finished with four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown, while also adding one carry for 10 yards. Wrote On3’s Charles Power:
Few true freshmen entered the season with more lofty expectations than Luther Burden III. The former five-star prospect started off with a multi-touchdown performance to open the season, but has since missed time with an injury. Burden was back in action for Missouri on Saturday and wasted little time in making his presence felt against Vanderbilt.
Burden showed off his patented run-after-catch ability, taking a quick screen to the house from 35 yards out on Missouri’s first drive of the game.
The 5-foot-11, 208-pounder found paydirt again in the second quarter, taking an end-around into the end zone from 10 yards out. Burden accounted for both of Missouri’s touchdowns in the 17-14 win. Now that he appears to be healthy, it’s possible we see Burden continue to emerge as one of the more dangerous young playmakers in the SEC. The St. Louis native was a Five-Star Plus+ prospect in the 2022 cycle, finishing as the No. 4 overall prospect and No. 1 wide receiver in the 2022 On3 Consensus.
