Wide receiver Luther Burden sent Missouri fans across the country into a frenzy on Monday, scrubbing anything to do with the program from his social media. One of the highest-rated recruits in Tigers history, rumors began to fly about Burden entering the transfer portal. To say the least, it would be a significant loss for head coach Eli Drinkwitz.

Late Monday night, Burden decided to clear the air with a social media post. He reassured Mizzou fans he was locked in, asking for some patience on the situation. Burden said he didn’t want to be “misunderstood.”

“Mizzou fans: Please don’t misunderstand my intentions,” Burden said. “I’m always a TIGER! Jus be patient, here we come!

For now, the possible drama with Burden seems to be over. There are still eight games remaining on the schedule for him to make an impact under Drinkwitz.

Coming out of high school, Burden was ranked a five-star prospect by the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services. He was a huge recruiting win for head coach Eli Drinkwitz, with Burden picking Missouri over the likes of Alabama and Georgia.

Burden ranked as the No. 3 overall player in the 2022 class coming out of East Saint Louis High School, electing to stay home.

In four games with Missouri, Burden has only been able to haul in ten catches for 78 receiving yards and a touchdown. It’s been a slow start for the wide receiver, who was expecting to hit the ground running with the Tigers.

Time will tell whether Luther Burden decides to end his time with Mizzou, but it would be a huge blow to Missouri if he does decide to enter the transfer portal.
