Brennan Armstrong explains how he's balanced being new, stepping into a leadership position
Following the 2022 season, Brennan Armstrong made the move to transfer from Virginia to NC State. Having been a college quarterback since 2018, he wanted to jump in and lead right away. At the same time, he knows that he needs to find a balance when stepping into that role.
Armstrong explained the balance he’s trying to find on the ACCN set during the 2023 ACC Football Kickoff.
“It’s a different balance,” Brennan Armstrong said. “You know being the older guy on the team, but newer to the team. I felt like I just, in a sense, took a freshman approach. I just, when I first came in, I worked super hard, was consistent, and stayed disciplined the entire time.”
As he joined the team, it was important for Brennan Armstrong to start showing his personality, but he wanted to make real connections with his teammates too.
“And I’d say things here and there, just to talk and chat and let guys get to know who I am. And then, I feel like the offense was a good connector with the guys, just being able to talk with the offense, with the receivers. Then, Spring Ball, started jumping into that vocal role and I think Fall Camp I’m gonna start cranking it up a little bit more,” Armstrong said.

“I don’t know if they really understand the fiery guy that’s inside of me, yet. I really haven’t shown it. So, I don’t want to shock guys on like game one if I get fired up. So, I think I’m gonna start showing a little bit more in Fall Camp and just kind of creating that urgency and confidence on that offensive side.”
Brennan Armstrong on how receptive Raleigh has been
One thing that Brennan Armstrong has found out is that he loves the city of Raleigh. At the same time, he knows he still needs to prove himself to a lot of the local fans.
“I feel like it’s been good. I mean, it’s a big city. It ain’t like Charlottesville. Charlottesville is more college town, but yeah, Raleigh seems to be — it’s a great place, I think. I could see myself living there,” Armstrong said.
“But, it feels like they’ve been receptive of me and I think I’ve still got to earn my stripes there. You know, I don’t think the past really does it for them. I think I’ve got to throw the Wolfpack uniform on and show them what I can do. And that’s fair enough. That’s my job, to go out there and win games. I think I’ll win them over, I think I’ll win them all over after that.”
