NC State got a big win over the weekend against Clemson, and head coach Dave Doeren was clearly excited about it after the game. There, he made it clear that he had heard what Steve Smith said about the Wolfpack while making picks on ESPN’s College GameDay, saying that Smith can kiss him where the sun doesn’t shine.

It was a funny moment of passion and joy from Dave Doeren. Some people might have walked back that kind of comment when given the opportunity to do so, and, eventually, he did get that opportunity. However, that was an opportunity that Doeren used to double down on his comments, rather than walk them back.

“For a guy who lives in Charlotte, he’s clearly got his head faced West to Utah all the time,” Dave Doeren said. “Which I understand.”

Smith, who is from California and played at Utah. The majority of his NFL career was with the Carolina Panthers, and he still calls Charlotte home today.

“No disrespect to him but he disrespected our program, and I’m not gonna let people do that. These kids have worked their butt off. We’ve won a lot of football games here in my tenure. I think we’re second or third in the ACC in wins in football,” Doeren said.

“So, he can take that and put it where it belongs, but this is not a basketball school. This is a great, great school. It has great sports, and football is one of them. So, yeah, if he wants to come see me, we can talk. about that, but do your homework before you start talking shit.”

Notably, Smith didn’t call NC State a basketball school, which appears to be Doeren’s biggest issue with Smith’s comments. He picked against NC State, saying, “Clemson has been struggling. They’re not the Clemson that we’ve loved over the years. But NC State, unfortunately, they’re waiting for basketball to start.”

Still, Dave Doeren clearly felt that Steve Smith was taking an unnecessary shot at the program and he used the pick as motivation in a big win against Clemson.

Dave Doeren called out Steve Smith

It was a huge win for NC State over Clemson. For Dave Doeren it was also an emotional win that he poured his energy into and seemed to use Steve Smith’s comments as motivation for.

So, in his postgame interview, Dave Doeren took the time to remind everyone that he’d heard what Steve Smith said about NC State.

“I’ll tell Steve Smith in the studio,” Doeren said. “This isn’t a basketball school. He can kiss my ass.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Steve Smith takes the time to respond to Doeren for his comments or not. For now, though, Doeren has made his stance on the situation crystal clear.
