Kevin Keatts lands another $50,000 bonus as N.C. State continues historic march to Elite Eight
The magical ride of the N.C. State Wolfpack men’s basketball team continues. The Wolfpack took care of business against the No. 2 seed Marquette Golden Eagles, prevailing 67-58 in a Sweet 16 matchup that was never really close. N.C. State is back in the Elite Eight for the first time since 1986 under Jim Volvano. With their historic run, Wolfpack head coach Kevin Keatts continues to rake in the bonus money.
According to Steve Berkowitz, he landed another $50,000 bonus on Friday night, pushing his total to $250,000 for the past few weeks. On top of all of that, Keatts has also secured a two-year automatic extension with the school, with an automatic $400,000 raise. It’s been a wild ride that simply nobody could have predicted a few weeks ago.
To briefly recap, the Wolfpack have rattled off eight straight wins, winning the ACC Tournament Championship. Then, they beat Texas Tech in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wolfpack also defeated one of the Cinderellas of the tourney, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in overtime.
Kevin Keatts talks about the Wolfpack heading to Elite Eight
For the first time in nearly 40 years, NC State is heading to the Elite Eight. After the Wolfpack’s 67-58 upset win over No. 2 seed Marquette, NC State head coach Kevin Keatts raved about his team.
“These guys are great. We’re doing it on both ends of the floor. I’m so proud of them,” Keatts said. “We talked about being very stingy defensively and Marquette’s a really good basketball team. We did a great job. I thought we were better defensively.”

NC State’s defense was lockdown in the win, forcing Marquette to have one of its worst offensive performances of the season. The Golden Eagles shot 20-60 (33.3%) from the field and 4-31 (12.9%) from beyond the arc in the loss.
Meanwhile, NC State connected on 39.1% of its attempts from 3-point range. Further, the Wolfpack recorded 14 assists on 26 total made field goals. Keatts can see his team improving every game.
“We’re sharing the basketball,” Keatts said. “They’re starting to trust each other. They believe in one another. It’s beautiful. We’re going to the Elite Eight and all the credit goes to these guys.”
