McNeese State transfer guard Quadir Copeland commits to NC State

Former McNeese State guard Quadir Copeland has committed to NC State, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. He entered the transfer portal on April 3.
Copeland only spent one season at McNeese State after playing the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Syracuse. In his lone campaign with the Cowboys, Copeland made 35 appearances and 24 starts. He averaged 9.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 48.8% from the field.
Copeland shot just 15.4% from beyond the arc but he only attempted 26 3-pointers throughout the season. Copeland was key to McNeese State’s upset win over Clemson in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this season.
In the victory, Copeland tallied 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists on 5-8 shooting from the floor. For his efforts this season, Copeland was named an All-Southland Conference Second-Team selection and an All-Southland Conference Tournament Team member.
In his two years at Syracuse, Copeland made 52 appearances but only started once. In his sophomore season, he averaged a career-high 9.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
Quadir Copeland played high school basketball at Life Center Academy (PA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 132 overall player and No. 19 combo guard in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Although Copeland hasn’t played at NC State before, he should feel comfortable with the Wolfpack. After McNeese State made the NCAA Tournament, news broke that Cowboys head coach Will Wade would be taking over at NC State after the season ended.

Evidently, Copeland isn’t interested in playing for another coach. He isn’t the first McNeese State player to transfer to NC State this offseason. On April 2, Alyn Breed also committed to Will Wade and the Wolfpack, via the transfer portal.
If NC State fans are lucky, the McNeese State transfers will bring some of their winning culture with them. It was an agonizing 2024-25 season for NC State, which went 12-19 and 5-15 in conference play to finish 16th in the ACC standings.
Due to its poor conference record, NC State didn’t qualify for the ACC Tournament. Like he has with many other programs before, Will Wade will look to turn the Wolfpack’s fortune around in his debut campaign at the helm of the program.
